NAME: Sam Turner
SQUAD NUMBER: 3
ROLE: Sam is no stranger to the sport, having been a regular for the Mall in the 3rd XI. He favours a medium pace over the wicket, and has been known on occasion to keep the batsman honest by pelting it into their helmet. He brings a certain aggression rarely seen in the game, and will need to control his anger if the umpire starts acting up. Using his trusty Kookaburra bat, purchased as a young pretender at the age of 9, he doesn’t do conservative; fours, sixes or out.
DEEF EXPERIENCE: He only converted to the Deef circuit last summer, but the couple of appearances made on Sheen common whet the crowd’s appetite for more of the same. It will be a steep learning curve, nonetheless.
THOUGHTS ON THE TOURNAMENT: “Absolutely astonished to get the call-up to the Australian squad, and in fact to be starting batsman and bowler. Mind-blowing stuff considering my lack of experience, but I’m assuming their scouts clocked me playing rugby on the beach of Australia while on holiday in 2003. My partner James Churchman and I have an illustrious past playing together. My PB of 39 not-out took place with James at my side in the U15 As. Really excited to get involved and get the bevs in. There are some quality countries being represented, and my group is certainly the Group of Death. Going to have to be on the top of my game to get out into the knockout rounds."
