NAME: Nicholas Aldridge
SQUAD NUMBER: 1
ROLE: Top Order Batsman – prides himself on the cut shot and off drive, looks to consolidate his innings before scoring freely later on. Is widely known in the Transvaal for his superb variation in bowling and he often holds the batsman’s willy for overs at a time. Fielding is hit and miss as he was taught by Makhaya Ntini and Andre Nel who were a little suspect in the fielding department themselves.
DEEF EXPERIENCE: Studied at Makhaya Ntini’s School of Deef after being scouted from the streets of Soweto following a typically luscious cover drive across a main road. Took this coaching onto the main stage, becoming the only living deefer to have raised his bat to the pavilion, a feat he has accomplished twice.
Translation from Afrikaans:
"From the streets of Soweto using dried and compressed elephant dung as a ball to playing the opening game of such an illustrious tournament, I can only thank God and Makhaya Ntini. I am delighted that the South African selectors saw enough in me to select me and I hope to repay the faith they have showed to me. I do not wish to speculate about other teams, they are all shite (error in translation)."
