NAME: Arunan Gukathasan
SQUAD NUMBER: 4
ROLE: Quick off the front foot with a good eye for the inswing, Gukathasan’s raw talent has been tailored to the deef circuit. With his style having been described as ‘a leg break googly that swings in the air like a pair of old man’s balls’ his competitors should be concerned.
DEEF EXPERIENCE: No stranger to the deef culture, Gukathasan was hurled onto the deef circuit of the wicked streets of Colombo from a young age. The romance of the deef circuit has always been attractive to him. His path to the top was cut short as civil unrest forced him to flee the country, taking residence in England. Despite being welcomed by the underground deef circuit, his vernacular and colour meant he struggled to make it to the upper echelons of the game. A skin augmentation provided the well deserved break needed to become a professional player at the tender age of 15.
THOUGHTS ON THE TOURNAMENT: "I am so very pleased that I have been given this fantastic opportunity to represent my residential nation. Hugill has been like a father figure to me through these tender times, and I hope I do not disappoint my new race in my first professional deef tournament for the country.’
Simple, yet heartwarming."
