NAME: Axel Thorn (Previously competed under the name Alex North, has since changed by deed poll)
SQUAD NUMBER: 7
ROLE: “Best long barrier in the game.” Derek Pringle, ‘The Telegraph’, Summer of ’89 after the T50 Cricket World Cup win. A deceptively fast medium pacer. Occasionally useful with the bat after hitting a six against St. Pauls and in house cricket in the 2010 season. Moved up to fourth in the order after hitting 17 against Dulwich College in the same season.
DEEF EXPERIENCE: Very experienced in the game. He’s an actual winner of a previous deef tournament. After choosing to come out of retirement no one can be certain how he’s going to perform; but his coach is telling me he’s hitting the balls better than ever.
THOUGHTS ON THE TOURNAMENT: “After a few great sessions in the nets already Jo-No and I are feeling confident. Having gained citizenship here in Canada, since moving here after my retirement, I thought why not give it another go with a new team. Jo-No called me up and gave me the offer and I felt inclined to accept. I look forward to seeing how the field will be; the conditions at The Hugill Arena, the home of deef, are never consistent.”
